I am very confused over the use of an external mic. I was under the impression that I needed to find one that would hook in to my video camera but I thought I saw in one of your other posts that a wire mic would plug into the computer - is that if I am using the webcam? And in that case, would I mute the microphone from the webcam??

I am trying to ensure I get the best audio possible and I know the webcam microphone is not going to cut it.

Thanks for your help,
Kristina

Kristina,

You can do all of the above. You can choose your audio source on the Home tab within Instant Video Presenter.

1. Webcam:
There is a microphone on the webcam which you can use. Yes, the quality can vary greatly depending on the room you are in.

2. Microphone on a camera: If you have a different camera you can use the microphone on it or add a microphone to the camera. Make the selection in the home tab for the different audio source

3. Microphone direct to the computer: This would be my reccommendation. Most computers have an audio card with three inputs on them. Mic, line, and headphones. You would plug in your microphone to the Mic input (usually has a microphone icon next to it). Then select correct option on home tab.

If you use a webcam and microphone hooked to the computer (which is what we do) just select the webcam as your camera source and the new mic as your audio source on home tab. Make sure the microphone is plugged in (and turned on if needed) before you open Instant Video Presenter so that the program recognizes it.

Hi

When I plug in my DV camera into my computer using the 1394/firewire interface cable, the camera audio source does not appear as a choice in the audio setup. Video is fine, but the audio recorded is either the built-in microphone or a USB headset mic.
How do I get the application to record audio from the camera?

Thanks,

Jenna

You can use a microphone on your camera or plug one directly into the computer. It's entirely up to you which microphone you would like to use and different options may work better for you depending on your recording environment.

The process for selecting a microphone is the same for everything though. Every microphone on your computer that is identified by the software will appear in the "Microphone" drop down menu in the "Home" tab at the top of your software. Simply select the microphone you would like to use from the drop down list and you're good to go!

"Every microphone on your computer that is identified by the software will appear in the "Microphone" drop down menu in the "Home" tab at the top of your software."

This is exactly the problem:

1. The wireless microphone is not on the computer. It is on the camera.

2. The audio input from the camera does not appear on the drop down menu and therefore can not be selected

Does the application support audio input from the camera over a 1394 (firewire) connection?

Regards,

Jenna
